It is the Policy of MG Rover Group to strive
to minimise the environmental impacts of our business on local,
national and global levels. We will continually improve our
environmental performance by setting and reviewing targets and, as
a minimum, complying with relevant environmental
legislation.
IMPLEMENTING OUR POLICY
1. Vehicle Design
During the design and development of vehicles we will take account
of the environmental impacts of their manufacture, use and end-of-
life disposal. We will continually review the use of technology to
reduce the environmental impact of our vehicles during use.
2. Manufacture
During the manufacture of vehicles we will use resources
efficiently and adopt management techniques to minimise our effect
on the environment.
- strive to reduce energy, water and
material consumption at source and to recycle materials
where practicable;
- control and monitor emissions to air,
discharges to water or contamination of land;
- prevent pollution by effectively managing
our processes and waste streams;
- encourage employees to implement
environmental improvements within their working areas;
- assess the environmental performance of
contractors to ensure that good environmental practices are
followed whilst working on site.
- assess the environmental impacts of site
developments.
3. Supply Chain
We will encourage our suppliers and dealerships to manage their
environmental impacts and, as appropriate, offer them
support. We will ensure that on-site tenants follow good
environmental practices and work with us to protect the
environment.
4. Communication
We will communicate with our employees to keep them informed about
environmental issues that affect the Company. We will liase
with external organisations to keep up to date with environmental
developments to ensure that our processes are managed, improved and
controlled. We will communicate with our neighbours about
environmental issues that may affect them and respond to their
concerns with diligence.
5. Environmental
Management
We will maintain a management system that meets the requirements of
ISO14001 "Environmental Management Systems". We will verify our
management system by internal audits and by accreditation by the
Vehicle Certification Agency. We will implement Company wide
environmental procedures to ensure this Policy is effective.
6. Responsibilities
All managers are responsible for ensuring that environmental issues
within their areas of responsibility are adequately assessed,
controlled and monitored. Every employee should be aware of the
environmental impacts of their work.
