Rover's partnership with the British Olympic Association
began in 2000, when the company signed up as a Team GB
sponsor for the Olympic Games in Sydney. In February 2001,
Rover announced a continuation of its investment in Team GB
through a new four-year partnership with the BOA,
encompassing the 2002 Olympics Winter Games in Salt Lake City
and the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Rover was the first
company to renew its support of Team GB following Sydney
2000. The partnership provides a sustained level of support
for our British sporting heroes, who are hoping to capitalise
on the glorious achievements of Sydney 2000, which saw Great
Britain's largest medal haul for 80
years.
Simon Clegg, Chief Executive of the British Olympic
Association, says:
"As a non-government funded organisation, the BOA relies upon
its sponsors to support its many programmes focused on making
a performance difference to our Olympic athletes, such as the
Team GB Preparation Camp in Australia. We are delighted to
have Rover on board as Team GB sponsor. Their support enables
us to provide services that will help Britain's Olympic
sports continue their medal winning
ways."
Steve Robertson, UK Marketing Director of MG Rover Group
commented:
"These are exciting times for Rover and the British Olympic
Team. We are honoured to provide ongoing support for Team GB
and hope that it will provide a foundation to emulate the
success of the Sydney Olympics over the next four
years."
Rover is currently working with a number of high-profile
athletes, many of whom are Olympic medal-winners. They
include triple-jump champion Jonathan Edwards, sprinter
Darren Campbell, decathlete Dean Macey, rower James Cracknell
and the young sprint star Amy Spencer. These Team Rover
athletes will be supporting a number of events on Rover's
2002 sporting calendar, including activity for the
Commonwealth Games and the Rover Combined Events
Initiative. |
